Completed: Quarterly Cluster Maintenance Tuesday Aug 6

Dear CRC Users,

We have completed our quarterly maintenance and have returned the clusters to production.

Some notable changes to the CRC clusters are the following:

New login node hardware

The hardware underlying various login nodes has been updated.

When connecting to HTC (htc.crc.pitt.edu), instead of resolving to the backend hostnames "login0a" or "login0b", you may now notice that you land on "login3". This is the new login node for HTC.

On H2P (h2p.crc.pitt.edu), you will still end up on one of the backend hostnames "login0" or "login1", but these nodes have also been updated.

Cgroups enabled across all login and VIZ nodes

With cgoups in place, interactive work will no longer be able to significantly impact the experience of other users on the shared resources that directly compose the login nodes (i.e. CPU and Memory for any given process).

Thank you for your patience during this downtime and as always, please log in and submit a help ticket if you encounter any post-maintenance problems.

Sincerely,

The CRC Team
