The Center for Research Computing (CRC) Spring Workshop Series Registration Page.

These hands-on workshops will cover the following topics, with dates and times. Please let us know which workshops you’ll be attending. The workshops will be held in 266 Chevron Computer Lab, Ashe Annex Balcony. All the workshops material and videos are provided on here.

  1. Wed 1/18 (1-4PM): Cluster Training.  Our annual cluster training workshop. We will go over the new hardware, modules, and queuing system that is in production. I will try to present some useful concepts for computations using SLURM, including: queuing many small jobs as one job, using the scratch space, and trapping exit codes for restarts.
  2. Wed 2/1 (1-4PM): R Programming.  Hands-on training on the R language syntax, how to run R code on the cluster, and strategies for parallelizing and debugging R code.
  3. Wed 2/15 (1-4PM): Introduction to C Programming (A Stepping Stone to Parallel Programming). This workshop is meant as a primer for the Hybrid OpenMP/MPI Workshop. It will not be able to cover everything, but using this workshop, as well as some practice, you should become prepared for future high level workshops on parallel programming.
  4. Mon-Wed-Fri 3/13, 15, 17 (1-4PM): Hybrid OpenMP/MPI Programming. This workshop is a lively, 3-day interaction on high performance computing. It is intended to give C and Fortran programmers a hands-on introduction to OpenMP, MPI and hybrid OpenMP/MPI programming. On the first day, we give an introduction to OpenMP. Second day is dedicated to MPI and on the third day, we touch on hybrid OpenMP/MPI programming. All three days are packed with useful information and lab exercises. Attendees will leave with a working knowledge of how to write scalable codes.
  5. Wed 4/12 (1-4PM): CUDA. Get a hands on experience parallelizing codes over massively parallel GPUs using the CUDA framework. Some C programming experience required as a prerequisite.
